Laingsburg Elementary

Gordon flew into Laingsburg Elementary to the squeels of the second and third graders on March 27th. He was delighted as they learned how to eat the colors of the rainbow and the difference between a snack and a treat.

Grand Finale: St. Gerard Catholic School, Lansing

Kindergarten through Grade Five students welcomed Gordon, Wembly, and Gertie to St. Gerard School in Lansing. Today was the grand finale of March is Reading Month, and we celebrated it in style with all our friends (some with skin and some with feathers). Gordon extends a great big thank you to all Michigan students and teachers who welcomed us into their schools, classrooms, lunch rooms, libraries, and other nooks and crannies this year. Without you the winter would have been miserable. Gordon, Wembly, and Bertie encourage you to continue making healthy choices one bite at a time, remembering that the colors of the food you eat are very important. Eat a rainbow of colors each and every day.

Eureka

The word Eureka comes from the Greek language. It means "I have found it!" That word is fitting for this little country school tucked between four corners in the St. Johns school district. Eureka welcomed Gordon with open arms as the children saw foods that matched the colors of the rainbow and thought differently about snacks and treats. Four very helpful fifth graders hung around to say farewell to Gordon, helping him load up and fly to our next destination. Gordon is hopeful that many students will change the way they think about and eat healthy fruits and veggies. He knows that eating the colors of the rainbow will fill us up with so much energy, that we won't miss the pink, white, and brown treats we used to live on.

Waldron School: Fowler, Michigan

Gordon flew into Fowler, Michigan, on Monday March 7th. It was a chilly flight for him, Wembly, and Bertie. Once inside Waldron School, they were greeted by March is Reading Month's "Wild West." Kindergarten through grade five students gave the seagulls their full attention sorting through the many of choices we make every day: some healthy, some unhealthy. After enjoying the story, the middle school students discussed the writing process, and what it takes to author a book. Gordon encourages all of us to look for the healthiest choices. That includes writing and reading, along with nutrition. Happy reading Waldron students!

March is Reading Month at Leonard Elementary: Ovid, MI

Gordon is having the time of his life during March is Reading Month, in Michigan. On Thursday the 3rd of March, he took flight with Wembly and Bertie to join the children at Leonard Elementary in Ovid, kick off their reading month. The children discovered it's all about choices, and the choices are theirs alone. He just knows they will make healthy choices.

St. Joseph Catholic School, St. Johns, MI

On the first of March, Gordon, Wembly, and Bertie perched themselves in a splendid spot in the gymnasium of St. Joseph school, to listen to their story along with parents and children who came to attend this PTO event. Gordon was delighted at the games, exercises, and healthy food choices he saw the children involved in.

Chilly Flight to RileyElementary

On February 16th, Gordon landed at Riley Elementary (rural St. Johns) to read and talk to the most polite kindergarten through fifth grade audience yet. Gordon, Wembly, and Bertie chatted about how much the warmth of the students warmed them in this cold Michigan winter.
